FAQ's

Fibre internet refers to an internet connection that utilises fibre-optic cables to transmit data at incredibly high speeds. It offers faster and more reliable internet compared to traditional copper-based connections like DSL or cable.

Fibre internet works by transmitting data using pulses of light through thin strands of glass or plastic fibres. These fibres carry the data over long distances with minimal loss, resulting in faster internet speeds and higher bandwidth capabilities.

Fibre internet offers several benefits for residential users, including:

  • High-speed connection allows for seamless streaming, gaming, and downloads.
  • Reduced fibre latency provides a smoother online experience, especially for real-time applications like online gaming and video conferencing.
  • Reliable internet as fibre is less prone to interference from weather conditions, ensuring a stable and consistent connection.

Fibre availability depends on your location. Our fibre network is always expanding, but coverage may still be limited in some regions. You can check with our coverage map to determine if fibre is available at your address.

To get fibre internet installed, you typically need to follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Check your area coverage: Verify if fibre internet is available in your area.
  • Step 2: Choose a package: Select a fibre plan that suits your budget and internet needs.
  • Step 3:  Choose a provider: Select a reliable internet service provider that meets your needs.
  • Step 4:  Schedule installation: If fibre is available at your location, schedule an installation for a time that suits you. An installer will visit your residence to get you set up.
  • Step 5: Get activated: Your chosen internet service provider will connect you to the internet.

Unfortunately not. Fibre optic cables transmit data at incredibly high speeds and require special Optical Network Terminal (ONT) routers which are equipped for this. Zoom Fibre will need to install a new router at your residence when you sign-up.

Fibre optic cables transmit data using light signals, so the network is not affected by power outages. However, without electricity in your home, your fibre router will not have power and therefore be unable to provide an internet connection.

If you encounter connectivity problems, it's best to contact your chosen internet service provider. However, you can also contact Zoom Fibre
